Zach Komes
Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development
Zach Komes is Director of Wealth Building Strategies at the Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development (CNHED) in DC. In this new role, he is founding program director of the DC Community Anchor Partnership (DCAP), a collaborative of five prominent universities and hospitals — or “anchor institutions” — committed to equitable economic development by leveraging their purchasing power to grow minority-owned businesses in the District of Columbia to boost jobs, income, and wealth for long-term residents. The initiative will formally launch in 2018. He also supports the organization’s comprehensive community economic development policy agenda that improves small business and workforce development in DC. Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Zach is passionate about equitable development policies, programs, and strategies that advance local economic growth, while expanding opportunity to reduce racial and economic inequities. With work experience in policy research and advocacy, impact investing, and nonprofit program development, he is particularly interested in cross-sector initiatives that mobilize the public, private, and social sectors. Zach is also Co-Founder of EveryDistrict, a grassroots fundraising effort that channels grassroots donations to help Democrats run and win in more places, which raised $70,000 for 14 candidates in VA and is scaling to other states this year. Zach received a B.A. in Economics from George Washington University.
