Early Learning Program Director, DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative

Michelle Smith-Howard is the Director of Early Learning at the DC Promise Neighborhood Initiative (DCPNI), committed to addressing the socio-economic disparities and challenges affecting underserved communities.  Michelle began her career as an early childhood special education teacher for students with moderate to severe delays in the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS).  She then transitioned to Early Stages, the DCPS diagnostic center for young children.   Michelle graduated magna cum laude from Southern University and A&M College and holds a Master’s in early childhood special education from The George Washington University.  She is completing her final semester of an Educational Specialist Degree Program at The George Washington University.  Michelle is a licensed teacher in the areas of early childhood education and early childhood special education in the District of Columbia.
