Liza Avruch

Sr. Associate, Independent Sector

Liza Avruch is the Senior Associate, Convenings and Knowledge Sharing and has been with Independent Sector for two years.  Independent Sector is the only national membership organization that brings together a diverse set of nonprofits, foundations, and corporations to advance the common good. Liza helps develop and manage the national conference, which attracts over 1,000 attendees from the charitable sector and beyond. Liza researches sector trends and maintains data on the nonprofit sector related to its size and economic impact, philanthropic giving, volunteering rates, and other longitudinal data.

Prior to joining IS, Liza was Senior Program Manager at Women Presidents’ Educational Organization where she managed the WBENC certification process for women-owned businesses in the DC metro area.  She guided firms through the process of certification and provided links between women entrepreneurs and business opportunities in the private and public sector.  Liza graduated with a Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management at George Mason University and graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Sociology from the University of Mary Washington. She enjoys volunteering at Bridges to Independence to help children with reading, writing, and math.
