Berenice Pernalete
Literacy Coordinator, Mundo Verde Bilingual Public Charter School
As a Literacy Coordinator, Berenice is responsible for the development and implementation of a robust curriculum that connects components of literacy with phonetics in both target languages of Spanish and English. She is also charged with building teaching capacity through coaching and professional development with academic staff. Berenice has previously developed bilingual preschool content for a PBS-affiliated television network and was involved with projects that promote bilingualism through the media. She spent the past two years at Mundo Verde as a lead kindergarten teacher, in which she helped produce the award-winning short film, Vuela, Vuela Mariposa. Berenice is a certified early childhood educator in the states of Texas, New York, and Virginia. She received her master’s in bilingual/bicultural education from Teachers College at Columbia University and her bachelor’s in mass communication from Louisiana State University.
