What inspired you to apply for ProInspire?

I was inspired to apply for ProInspire by the recommendation of a past fellow. He learned of my desire to work in the social sector, and thought it might be a great way for me to make the transition. I am most excited to have the support of the ProInspire organization and my cohort during this professional transition. I believe the mentoring and professional development available, coupled with the challenges of a new position,

in a new city will make for awesome personal and professional growth.

Is this your first time in the non-profit sector?

Yes, this will be my first time working full time in the non-profit sector. I decided to make the switch as I would like to be more thoughtful about the impact my life’s work has on the community I live and work in. Working in the social sector, and as a social entrepreneur, I believe I will have the opportunity to inspire others to be more socially responsible, and provide direct and indirect service to those in need.

What do you think made you marketable for this position? What is your professional areas of expertise?

I believe I was marketable for this position because of the wide range of skills I possess that are relevant to being successful in a marketing and communications. I have had the opportunity to use my background in Psychology to successfully navigate through sales, marketing, branding, event management, supply chain and business development tasks.

What are your hobbies or extracurricular activities outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy being outdoors, playing flag football, exploring the city, spending time with family and friends. In addition, I enjoy cooking & eating (a lot), live music, reading & traveling.

Oh, Forever Go Blue! Avid University of Michigan fan.

What is one thing you can’t live without professionally?

A notepad! I tend to write everything down! Notes, messages, to-do lists…. I go through at least 1 per month. Notebooks keep me on track, and organized. There is nothing better than being able to cross things off of a list!

What do you think the biggest challenge for the non-profit sector will be over the next 5 years?

Awareness. Although awareness of the social sector is growing, I do believe the majority still has a fairly narrow idea of the broad range of disciplines, careers, and paths with which to create impact.

Where do you see yourself in 5, 10, and 20 years?

5 years: Growing in a social sector management position. Increasing awareness among peers about the importance of social sector/non-profit work and social responsibility. Creating non-traditional pathways within which people can complete/provide social service.

10 years: Founding a non-profit organization that uplifts others through social service and thoughtful connections. This organization will move between, and work with groups that would not traditionally have a foundation, etc. but can create great impact in their own community.

20 years: Executive Director of Community Affairs for a Fortune 500 company/sport franchise. Continuing to grow non-traditional pathways to social service.

On a typical Friday night, what might you be found doing?

Checking out live music with friends, catching a movie, or hanging out at home on the couch with a book and SVU marathon.
